Gabriel Yaiva is Dine' and Hopi, a father, one of the top Native hip-hop artist/promoter in North America, a community activist and a graduate of Northern Arizona University with a B.S. in Applied Indigenous Studies and a minor in Economic Development.

He is also the owner/founder of 4th World Ent., specializing in independent music releases, promotion and marketing and the director of Peace & Balance, a violence prevention project of the Native Movement non-profit organization.

As an artists Yaiva has been able to bridge hardcore street hip-hop, consciousness and a voice of purpose. Yaiva's story as a person is nothing short of extraordinary and a testament to the power of the human spirit if one believes in destiny and ever-guiding faith. Yaiva has often said he lives by a quote that states "fall down seven times, stand up eight".

Through his independent record label 4th World Ent. he has released five solo albums, one of which was a six song EP, also helped in the release of two albums from JayNez, three mixtapes with DJ Kiss (2008 New Mexico Mix Champion), executive produced various hip-hop compilations and featured custom-made songs on several movies and DVD's including the "Joke Signals Comedy Show" from the Pow Wow Comedy Jam.

These albums include "Straight Heat" which was Yaiva's first album and became the best selling independent album in the southwest in 2003-2004. This release featured the original version of "Down For A Struggle" with EagleMan Redday playing the flute over the beat. This album also was the first Native album to utilize the Chop & Screwed style of DJing that was popularized by southern rappers.

Then came the "For My People - EP" which introduced the world to a new Native R&B singer named JayNez.

"LIMITED EDITION" is considered to be a masterpiece in concept and marketing because of how Yaiva presented songs from past releases and songs from upcoming releases in a compilation of sorts which then became an album of its own and has gone on to receive many award nominations, recognition, radio play and still garners the most sales of any of Yaiva's albums thus far.

In 2006 Yaiva released a ground breaking hip-hop compilation, "The Fire Starter" that features some of the biggest names in Native hip-hop including Quese iMC, Buggin' Malone, Maniac, Night Shield, Nakai the BLK Crow, Shadowyze, Big Dro of Rez Official, Poetika, 4SEEN, Project X and more.

In that same year another ground breaking compilation was Executive Produced by Yaiva which was the "Winter Solstice - Save The Peaks Compilation". This album sought to educated thru hip-hop, reggea and spoken word of the battle being waged over the use of reclaimed water to produce artificial snow of the sacred San Francisco Peaks which are held as sacred sites to 13 tribes in the southwest and are recognized by a total 22 tribes as holding extreme significance in their stories of origin.

"Winter Solstice" was nominated for a Native American Music Award. It featured music from Casper Loma-Dawa, SupaMan, RedCloud, EagleMan RedDay, Maniac, Bigg Trub, Aztlan Underground, Night Shield, JayNez, Yaiva and much more.

"LIFE" was Yaiva's forth solo release which debuted in June of 2008 while Yaiva was traveling the communities of British Columbia. Initially this was a double album for the first 1000 copies. This album hosted a 60 minute mixtape with DJ Kiss now called "The Best Thus Far Mixtape".

"This is my most personal album to date. There is one song on this release that was the hardest for me to record. I actually started crying during the recording of "Another Day" cuz I had to relive the time I had got stabbed in a street knife fight. I just remember coming to and seeing my mom on my bedside crying and praying cuz they had told her I wasn't going to make it. It broke my heart to know what I put my family through as a young man. But recording this song was important to me for a couple reasons. One, to get it out and as an artist their are things we can't let fester in our souls and two, to share this experience with other young people that might be caught in the same mess I was at that time" Yaiva stated.

"The Essence" Is Yaiva's most recent solo release. This release was sponsored by the First Nations Composers Initiative and the Peace and Balance Project of Native Movement.

This would have to be considered Yaiva's crossover album because up until this point Yaiva had always been just under the radar of mass audiences but with this release he has receive acclaim from all generational groups.

"Its been amazing, cuz their are elders that know my music and tell me they are grateful for the work I'm doing...Its really something else" Yaiva stated "They tell me that the stories I tell are relevent to the way our youth are living today, its unfortunete but its reality and needs to be addressed and not to be overlooked" Yaiva added in a recent newspaper interview.

This album features a new song with ZIg Zag of the NB Ridaz, a much awaited posse cut called "Natural High - Extended Version" featuring SupaMan, Victor E, Night Shield, Tac Tile, 28 tha Native and more (this original version was featured on the film "G" from Sheep Head Films that receieved the 2006 Native American Film Award for Best Documentary) also the underground favorite "Life's Duality", the radio single "Get Like Me w/ DJ SOE" and offer short stories from four young leaders in the soutwest that add a very unique offering to this steller hip-hop album, one of which is the introduction of the album by Tony Skrelunas that is done all in the Navajo language.

Currently he is the marketing specialist for KEYA Earth, a Native owned sustainable building company that is working on sustainable/healthy economic development. He is also a educator and facilitator for the non-profit green education group called the Native Green Leadership Academy. Additionally he does marketing for many independent companies including the Native American Heritage Markets at Grand Canyon, AZ.

With all that Yaiva is involved with and his willingness to share his life experiences he is not surprisingly a very sought after presenter and key-note speaker, having spoke recently at the The Cultivating UNITY Youth Summit, The Intertribal Conversations on the Colorado Platuea Gathering, T.O.P. Youth Summit, University of Kansas, Environmental Health Coalition in San Diego, CA, at the Grassroots Global Justice conference, The 25th Annual IHS Domestic Violence Promotion Conference, Lummi Indian Nations Schools in Lummi Islands, WA to name a few.
